Sydney trainer Joe Pride is keen to push on to Thursday week’s Listed Grafton Cup with Destiny’s Kiss after the four-year-old scored his first black-type win in today’s Listed Winter Cup (2400m) at Rosehill.

It was only the gelding’s second crack in stakes grade but he handled it with ease, justifying his $3.30 starting price to score convincingly from Fiumicino and Thebigiam.

With Christian Reith aboard, the progressive stayer highlighted his love for a wet track, emerging from midfield to accelerate quickly in the straight and pick up veteran Fiumicino who led for the majority of the race.

It was the second straight win for the slightly-built galloper and Pride is confident he can continue to rise through the grades, particularly if he gets conditions to suit.

“He’s still on the way up,” Pride told TVN.

“I’d love to see him up at Grafton but in saying that I’d love to see a soft track up at Grafton. We’ll keep an eye on the weather and another eye on the horse.

“He’s going through the grades nicely and today’s race really suited him.”

It was a one-two finish for owner Nick Moraitis who is excited about the new kid on the block after seeing nine-year-old Fiumicino win more than $3 million in prizemoney.

“It’s very exciting. He’s by my sire Power Of Destiny who has a lot of good young horses coming from him,” Moraitis said.

“They aren’t two or three-year-olds but they seem to carry on and go on further which is great.”

Reith was in the saddle of the rising five-year-old for just the second time and he was quick to endorse him as a stayer of the future.

“He’s very versatile. He’s still learning the trade but he’s an up-and-coming stayer and they should have a lot of fun with him,” Reith said.
