Black Caviar set to run at Royal Ascot next year

Black Caviar will make an appearance at Royal Ascot in England next June according to trainer Peter Moody.

The rising five-year-old has been assigned a spring and autumn carnival that will resemble last season’s successful campaigns.

Moody has pencilled in eight runs for the super mare throughout spring and autumn, meaning that if all goes to plan, Black Caviar could be heading to Ascot with 21 unbeaten wins under her belt.

The Helsinge mare will begin her spring carnival in the Schillaci Stakes at Caulfield on October 8 before taking on the Schweppes Stakes two weeks later and the Patinack Farm Classic on November 5.

Black Caviar will then possibly run a race in Perth in late November before taking a break ahead of her spring carnival campaign.

In the spring, Moody is hoping to extend Black Caviar out to 1,500 metres in the George Ryder Stakes or Queen Of The Turf on April 4.

Moody said the decision to follow next spring up with an overseas trip to Royal Ascot had been made following her winter campaign in Brisbane.

“I had a meeting with the owners after Brisbane, and they placed Royal Ascot next June at the top of their wish list,” Moody said.

“Everything I’m planning for her in the spring is with the goal of having her right for the Orr and Futurity next year when I’m excited about getting her out to 1400m.

“Part of that plan might be a trip to Perth for the (1200m) Winterbottom Stakes in November.”

Moody believes a trip to Perth in November would be a better option for Black Caviar than Hong Kong.

“At the moment Perth is ahead of Hong Kong,” Moody said.

“There is no quarantine issues and she would get some flying experience, but be home a day or so after the race.”

Black Caviar will have a well-deserved break after her Sydney runs in order to ensure she is at her prime for Ascot.

“After Sydney we can take our foot off the accelerator and get ready for England,” Moody said.
