Chris Waller‘s Ladbrokes Cox Plate champion mare, Via Sistina, is the overwhelming odds-on favourite in the 2025 Ranvet Stakes betting this Golden Slipper Day, aiming for her eighth Group 1 victory.

The Fastnet Rock mare is the standout in the $1 million Ranvet Stakes (2000m) field at Rosehill, priced at $1.45 through Ladbrokes to defend her title.

Via Sistina won last year’s Ranvet on her Australian debut and went on to dominate the 2024 spring carnival, highlighted by her eight-length Cox Plate victory.

Last start, she won the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes, solidifying her position as the Ranvet Stakes top fancy.

“Last start Via Sistina atoned for a narrow first-up third in the Group 2 Apollo Stakes when turning the tables on her stablemates to salute for the punters in the Group 1 Verry Elleegant Stakes (1600m) at Randwick on March 1,” a racing analyst from Races.com.au noted.

She is now out to become the first dual Ranvet Stakes winner since Tie The Knot (2000 & 2001).

The seven-horse field, though small, boasts significant quality.

Waller also fields Lindermann ($8.50) and Full Count Felicia ($10).

Lindermann, a former Rosehill Guineas winner from two years ago, is fit fourth-up and will be ridden by Damian Lane.

Full Count Felicia, an American-bred mare, makes her Australian debut after a Group 1 Breeders Cup placing.

“Waller plays a strong hand launching a three-pronged attack with Via Sistina joined in the starting line-up by two of her stablemates with Lindermann and Full Count Felicia paying $8.50 and $10 respectively,” a betting expert noted.

Lindermann is on a short seven-day turnaround after running third in the Group Sky High trifecta as the beaten odds-on favourite at the Ranvet course and distance last Saturday.

“He (Lindermann) goes well with plenty of racing so will handle the short turnaround,” a racing analyst said.

“(Full Count Felicia) presents as a genuine danger to perhaps emulate Via Sistina in saluting in the Ranvet first-up in Australia from overseas.”

Al Mubhir ($7), trained by William Haggas, adds international interest.

Haggas previously won the Ranvet with Addeybb in 2020 with that year’s winning hoop, Tom Marquand, to ride Al Mubhir on Saturday.

Fawkner Park ($11), trained by Annabel Neasham & Rob Archibald, is another contender.

Golden Path ($35) and Zarakem ($71) complete the field.

The 2025 Ranvet Stakes is scheduled for Rosehill Race 5 at 2:50pm (AEDT) on Saturday.
