Matt Laurie’s superstar mare Treasurethe Moment is the clear pick to return to Group 1 winning form when she faces just four rivals as the odds-on favourite in the 2025 Might And Power at Caulfield on Guineas Day.

Memsie Stakes Queen Back for More

Memsie Stakes heroine Treasurethe Moment headlines a select field of five in Saturday’s $1 million Group 1 Might And Power (2000m), formerly known as the Caulfield Stakes — a key Cox Plate lead-up.

Melbourne’s Guineas Day will deliver a Group 1 triple-header, and while the Might And Power field is small, the quality remains high, with Laurie’s flying Alabama Express mare dominating the markets at $1.85 through Ladbrokes.

Treasurethe Moment is chasing a remarkable fourth Caulfield victory from as many starts at the track and aims to follow in the hoofprints of Deny Knowledge, who took out the mares’ edition last year.

A Star Mare in Rare Form

Few gallopers can match Treasurethe Moment’s consistency. She’s won 10 of her 13 starts, finishing top two in every outing. As a filly, she pulled off the rare VRC Oaks–ATC Oaks double and is already a four-time Group 1 winner, with an earlier triumph in the Vinery Stud Stakes and a successful four-year-old debut at elite level.

Her latest success came first-up in the Group 1 Memsie Stakes at Caulfield, where she demolished her rivals by 2.5 lengths. That form has since been well and truly validated, with runner-up Mr Brightside claiming his third Makybe Diva Stakes.

A bout of colic briefly interrupted her spring campaign, forcing a delay to her second-up run, but she returned in style with a gallant second behind the front-running Pride Of Jenni in the Group 2 Feehan Stakes (1400m) at The Valley on September 26.

Returning to her beloved Caulfield and rising to the 2000m — a distance that should suit perfectly — she looks the one they all have to beat. From the inside gate, with Damian Lane back aboard, she will look to emulate Probabeel (2021), the last mare to win from barrier one.

Horse Racing Tip: Treasurethe Moment is unbeaten at Caulfield and looks poised to extend her streak to four straight wins at the track.

Buckaroo the Logical Threat

Chris Waller’s Buckaroo sits on the second line of Might And Power betting at $2.35 and looms as the main danger. The imported Fastnet Rock gelding, now seven, was runner-up in last year’s Caulfield Cup and returns to Caulfield chasing his first win since taking out the Underwood Stakes more than 12 months ago.

He finished second again in this year’s Underwood, beaten only half a length by Sir Delius, who subsequently won the Turnbull Stakes. With that elite form on the board, Buckaroo looks primed to strike with James McDonald taking over from gate three.

Globe, Light Infantry Man & Hezashocka Round Out the Field

The only other runner under double figures is Globe at $9, with Blake Shinn to ride for the Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr stable. The seven-year-old Charm Spirit gelding was runner-up under 59kg in an 1800m handicap at Sandown a fortnight ago and steps up to Group 1 company for the first time.

Stablemate Hezashocka resumes from a spell as the $51 outsider but has been competitive at this level before and could surprise if conditions suit.

Completing the small but classy field is Ciaron Maher’s Light Infantry Man ($13), this year’s Australian Cup winner. He was last seen finishing sixth to Fangirl in Sydney’s $1 million 7 Stakes, and though yet to hit peak form this prep, he adds further depth to the lineup.

The 2025 Might And Power Stakes is scheduled as Race 6 at 3:15pm (AEDT) on Caulfield’s Guineas Day program — a compact but star-studded field set to battle for Group 1 glory and a ticket to the Ladbrokes Cox Plate.
