The Group 1 $1.5 million Kia Tancred Stakes (2400m) has attracted a strong field of stayers, many with Sydney Cup aspirations.

“International raider Dubai Honour is narrow favourite to add another Group 1 trophy to his CV in the 2025 Tancred Stakes,” a racing from Races.com.au analyst reported.

Dubai Honour ($3.20 through Ladbrokes), trained by William Haggas, is favoured to win, drawn favorably in gate four with Tom Marquand riding.

The seven-year-old Pride Of Dubai gelding boasts a strong record, including wins in the 2023 Ranvet Stakes and Queen Elizabeth Stakes in Australia, as well as the Group 1 GB De Saint-Cloud in France.

Vauban ($3.70), trained by Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott, is the close second elect in the latest Tancred Stakes odds.

The French-bred seven-year-old, who won the Group 3 Sky High Stakes on March 15, is aiming to complete the Sky High/Tancred Stakes double.

“Vauban is tipped to take out the Sky High Stakes / Tancred Stakes double for the first time since Hartnell (2015) ten years ago!” a racing expert from Races.com.au stated.

Vauban, formerly trained by Willie Mullins, has Melbourne Cup experience and is expected to excel over 2400m.

He has a strong record at this distance and his Sky High form was franked by Lindermann’s subsequent Ranvet Stakes second.

“Vauban was another big winner in the Tancred Stakes barrier draw and will jump one inside of Dubai Honour from gate three with Tim Clark retaining the ride,” a racing analyst reported.

Arapaho ($6), trained by Bjorn Baker, and Duke De Sessa ($7), trained by Ciaron Maher, are also among the leading contenders in this year’s wide-open Tancred Stakes field.

Arapaho, an eight-year-old, is expected to thrive on the Soft rated track, while Duke De Sessa, a Caulfield Cup winner from the spring, has strong form over 2400m.

La Crique ($18), trained by Simon & Katrina Alexander, is considered a potential value bet.

The New Zealand mare has been consistently performing well and will be aiming to handle the 2400m distance off four straight Group 1 second placings back home.

“The New Zealand raider has run top two in her nine most recent runs,” a racing analyst stated.

The rescheduled 2025 Kia Tancred Stakes is set for Rosehill Race 8 at 4:40pm (AEDT) on Tuesday.
