Saturday at Eagle Farm marks the grand finale of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, culminating in the highly anticipated 2025 Tattersall’s Tiara, the final Group 1 race of the Australian season.

All eyes are on the capacity field of fillies and mares vying for the $700,000 prize in the Group 1 Tattersall’s Tiara (1400m).

Leading the charge as a narrow favourite at $4 through Ladbrokes is the Chris Waller-trained Firestorm, despite drawing a wide gate (19, reducing to 14 if emergencies scratch).

Waller, a two-time Tiara winner (Red Tracer, 2013; Invincibella, 2019), saddles three runners, with Firestorm being his top hope.

The Kiwi-bred four-year-old, a Group 1 placegetter in Sydney’s Coolmore Classic (2nd to Lady Shenandoah) in March, is looking to build on her eye-catching third-place finish in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes (1300m) on June 14, a key Tiara lead-up.

Champion jockey James McDonald retains the ride, seeking his maiden Tiara success.

Hot on her heels in the Tattersall’s Tiara betting markets at $4.20 is local star Floozie, trained by Tony Gollan.

This talented Zoustar four-year-old, with regular rider Angela Jones aboard from barrier nine, is on a remarkable four-race winning streak.

She dominated the Dane Ripper Stakes by half a length on a Good (3) track and now aims to complete the coveted Dane Ripper – Tiara double, a feat last achieved by Invincibella in 2019.

Floozie boasts an unbeaten record at Eagle Farm (3:3-0-0) and offers excellent value, having also won the Silk Stocking (1400m) on a Heavy track earlier this season.

The Dane Ripper runner-up, Tashi, also lines up as a single-figure contender at $8 for trainer Peter Snowden.

This Sebring five-year-old has been a consistent placegetter this preparation, finishing second in her three lead-up runs by narrow margins.

Drawing barrier 12 with Tom Sherry, Tashi is desperate for a breakthrough Group 1 victory.

Other notable contenders in the market include the returning Grinzinger Belle ($10) from the Danny O’Brien stable, and Zaszou ($15) for Phillip Stokes, who enters the race off a first-up win in the Listed Helen Coughlan Stakes over Tashi at the same track.

The Tattersall’s Tiara is set to run as Race 8 at Eagle Farm at 3:58 pm (AEST) on Saturday.
