Alice Springs Racecourse is regarded by many as one of the most scenic and beautifully situated tracks anywhere in the country. Located in the middle of Australia many may think that makes it the most out of the way racecourse, but in fact it’s actually the most central. The Alice Springs Turf Club sits just 7km from the CBD, which is closer than any other racetrack in Australia!

While the on track action is obviously the main drawcard there’s plenty that makes up the ‘Pioneer Park’ precinct.  The Princess Amelia Room, the Guineas Bar, the Dave Fogarty Pavilion and the Members Lounge with a private outdoor balcony combine to give all patrons an incredible racing experience.

The track itself is fairly large for a provincial venue, with a total circumference of 1690m and a home straight of 270 metres that gives all horses a chance to win.

Alice Springs Racecourse can cater for starts from 900m right out to a full two kilometres, with the surface itself composed of a special sand mixture that is also used at the Fannie Bay Track in Darwin.

Racing is hosted at the track 34 times a year meaning there are plenty of opportunities for locals and tourists alike to get out to the track and taste the experience.

The Alice Spring Turf Club does their best to get a range of different demographics to the races, hosting racedays like Truckies Day, Girl’s Day Out and Family Day.

Their most famous race card is Young Guns Day that is held on Saturday over the May long weekend, which features the Pioneer Sprint worth a huge $77,000.

Punters and racegoers have a rest day on the Sunday before returning to track on Monday for  the XXXX Gold Cup, which has prize money totaling $100,000 making it the most profitable race in all of Central Australia.

The Alice Springs Turf Club have added another Young Gun’s Day, that is held just days before the Melbourne Cup, to their calendar and this year will also celebrate Christmas with a meeting under the stars at the end of November.
