Palais Court will go into this Saturday’s Dulux Project Services QTIS Three-Year-Old Handicap at Doomben as the rank outsider, however, trainer Natalie McCall is asking the public not to write her off just yet.

The Court Command filly will have to face off against odds-on favourite Doubtfilly, who placed a gallant fourth in the $3.5 million Golden Slipper this autumn, in the 1,200 metre race.

But despite her inexperience and tough competition, McCall is confident Palais Court is in with a winning chance this weekend.

The trainer feels that Doubtfilly will be on the back foot from the beginning on Saturday after drawing barrier nine for the race.

“The nine alley at Doomben from the 1200 metres, it’s a bad start,” McCall said.

“And she won’t be afforded any favours. Everyone tends to ride against the hot pots.

“Hopefully while they’re doing that, mine will be getting a nice run behind them and can pop off the back of them.”

Palais Court won her first start at the Sunshine Coast in a $10,000 maiden handicap last month and went on the place third in the $50,000 Sirromet Love My Wine Handicap on August 15.

Despite the filly only having $11,500 in the bank so far, McCall believes that will change come Saturday’s race start.

She feels Palais Court’s barrier draw of one could be the deciding factor in the race.

“Having the fence is great for the young ones,” she said.

“A good alley is always a good start around Doomben.

“There are some handy types in the race but I’m more than happy to send her around.”

Even with her ideal gate, Palais Court will have to be at her best if she is to beat a resuming Doubtfilly.

The Not A Single Doubt filly has won four of her eight race starts and has earned more than $430,000 in prize money during her short career.
