Moonee Valley tonight – preview, scratchings, premierships.

Melbourne is putting on a typical day that made locals coin the line “If you don’t like the weather wait 10 minutes.”

The hot over 30s temperature is being followed by storms this afternoon.

At this stage Moonee Valley will race on a track rated a good three but that could deteriorate.

Storms have already hit down Mornington way, two hours away from Moonee Valley.

This meet is the final Friday evening  at Moonee Valley this year, though they are back racing here on Sunday to coincide with the Hong Kong International meet.

Last week jockey Dwayne Dunn joined Craig ‘Froggy’ Newitt as the leading Moonee Valley jockey this season.

Both are on ten wins but Newitt, with five rides on the eight race programme, may be able to sneak away again.

Dunn has just two rides on Kyarbee (Race 6) and Seeking Chi (Race 7).

The Anthony Freedman-trained Seeking Chi is considered the better of the two.

She has a particular liking for wet ground so if there is any rain keep that in mind.

Jeuney’s End is the main danger.

Jeuney’s End is coming out of Saturday class when third to Sea Galleon.

That horse was thought good enough to take to Sydney for the Listed Christmas Cup tomorrow.

Newitt could be in for a good night on Sezwho (Race 2), Gold Lining (Race 3), Globalwarmingsceptic (Race 4), Simple Choice (race 5) and Danyme (Race 6).

Sezwho and Danyme are considered his best but the others have cases and it may be a simple but good ploy to back Newitt eachway tonight.

Leading Moonee Valley trainer Peter Moody, in fact leading Melbourne trainer, has just one horse running tonight – Dayita (race 5).

TABsportsbet are taking no chances and have installed her the $3.60 favourite.

Dayita is just out of maiden class when defeating Khandallah last start on a slow track.

That horse has performed well since.

The first race kicks off at 6.45pm (EST time) and should provide a night of good value.
