This is it for Bakarje Diva, either win over 2050m at Morphettville on Saturday or be exiled from the track for good.
The full sister to three time Melbourne Cup champion Makybe Diva hasn’t won a race so far in a 10 start carer that’s fallen well short of expectations.
It would be a near impossible ask to have her live up to the standards of her famous sister but many people were expecting at least more than what she’s shown to date.
Bakarje Diva was originally purchased for a massive $1.8 million as a yearling and sent to Gold Coast trainer John Morrisey.
Whilst there she started four times and her results left the owners dejected to say the least.
So much so in fact that they took up a $600,000 offer from Nathan Tinkler to buy the horse, offloading her at a huge loss.
Patinack Farm bought her for her broodmare value but also figured they’d first try and get something out of her on the track.
That hasn’t really happened either and despite three placings from four starts in 2011 she’s still yet to crack a maiden.
She’s currently working out of Morphettvile and Patinack Adelaide stable manager Adam Spitzer says they’ve just about lost patience.
“She’s just a big raw mare and when you watch her race she still hasn’t worked it out at all,” he said.
Bakarje Diva is a five year old mare with a career record of 10 starts for two seconds and two thirds for a paltry total of just over $7000 in prize money.
