Woorim's trip to Melbourne has been brought forward

Top Queensland trainer Robert Heathcote has been forced to bring forward Woorim’s trip to Melbourne after the final two races at Doomben Racecourse were abandoned due to poor visibility last Saturday.

Woorim had been due to have his first-up run over 1,200 metres in the Channel Seven Brisbane Open Handicap last weekend after a brief 7 week spell.

Heathcote will now fly both Woorim and Buffering to Melbourne on Monday, where they will begin their spring carnival campaigns on September 10.

“Woorim had a gallop this morning,” Heathcote said.

“They are booked on a flight on Monday to go down to Melbourne.

“They’ll both race on the following Saturday the tenth of September.”

Woorim will resume in a handicap race at Moonee Valley, while Buffering will line up in the Group 2 Theo Marks Stakes.

“Woorim will run in a standard handicap on the Saturday and Buffering will be in the Theo Marks Stakes,” Heathcote said.

Buffering has been targeted towards the Group 1 Manikato Stakes on Victoria Derby Day at Flemington on October 29.

“He’ll go into the Manikato.. .Sure we’re going to have to take on More Joyous and Sepoy,” the trainer said.

“Then from there we’ll monitor how he goes in that race.”

Heathcote will continue his attempt to win his first Group 1 race with Woorim when he takes on the Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes over 1,400 metres on September 17.

“Now with Woorim we’ll go to the Rupert Clarke,” he said. (emirates)

Woorim’s major aim of the carnival is due to be the $1 million Emirates Stakes on the final day of the Melbourne Cup Carnival.

“We just hope things work out and we don’t get the wet tracks like we did last year,” Heathcote said.
