Trainer Chris Waller is not worried about a wide barrier for From Within in the Group 2 $300,000 Affinity Shopping Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on and expects the speedy filly to ping the gates.
From Within led all of the way when she won on debut in an 1100m 2yo Plate at Canterbury on December 31 and he will be instructing Joao Moreira to use her early speed again from the outside barrier in the eight horse field.
“Don’t think that the barrier will worry her too much, she has got great gate speed and at least we will have to utilize it,” Waller said.
Hugh Bowman, who will be on the sidelines on Saturday because of suspension, rode From Within back in the field from barrier four in the sixteen horse field in the $2m Jeep Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast on January 14 but the Not A Single Doubt filly never threatened in finishing thirteenth to Queensland filly Houtzen.
Waller is willing to forget that run and said that the filly has recovered from the run and was able to win an 800m barrier trial at Warwick Farm on February 20.
“She had a good draw at the Gold Coast and we rode her conservatively and that wasn’t right for her,” Waller said.
“She has bounced back well and trialled extremely well last week and she will be very hard to beat.”
The two year old fillies in the Reisling Stakes will get the first crack at the rain affected Randwick track which is rated a heavy 9 on Friday morning after receiving over 106mm of rain in the last seven days and Waller is uncertain how From Within will handle the track with no experience on a wet surface.
From Within was also an acceptor in the Group 3 $300,000 Mercedes-Benz Canberra Black Opal Stakes (1200m) at Canberra on Sunday but Waller scrached her from that this moring and the filly is rated the second pick at $6 for the Reisling Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au behind the short priced $1.26 favourite She Will Reign who had two of her three wins on rain affected tracks
After scoring on debut in a 1000m Kembla Grange 2yo Maiden, She Will Reign ploughed through the heavy conditions to record a four lengths victory in the Restricted Listed $500,000 Inglis Nursery (1000m) at Randwick on December 17 and then won on a soft 5 after missing the start in the Group 2 $250,000 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill on February 18.
The Gary Portelli trained She Will Reign is also at the top of the market order for the Golden Slipper at $3 while From Within can shorten her price up from $21 if she puts in an impressive performance in the Reisling Stakes.
