Last start beaten favourite First Among Equals will get his chance to make amends when he lines up in the Listed $100,000 H.G. Bolton Sprint (1200m) at Belmont in Perth on Saturday.
First Among Equals was having his first start back in the West after finishing twelfth to Vega Magic in the Group 1 $1m Darley Goodwood (1200m) at Morphettville on May 20 when narrowly beaten by It’s It as the $2.20 favourite in the Listed $100,000 Beaufine Stakes (1000m) at Belmont in Perth on July 15.
Punters are looking to get their money back and the Simon Miller trainer First Among Equals has been posted as the $2.45 favourite at Ladbrokes.com.au for the H.G. Bolton Sprint.
First Among Equal has been allocated the top weight of 61kg and has drawn barrier three in the eight horse field with Aaron Mitchell to ride again.
Miller will also saddle up last start winner Meteoroid who has drawn the outside gate with former leading Toowoomba jockey Skye Bogenhuber taking the ride and Miller’s stable manager Kyle Nowland is expecting a top performance from both the sprinters.
“Both horses have had perfect preparations,” Nowland told The West Australian.
“We’re confident they’ll be hard to beat.”
Beaufine Stakes winner It’s It is set to line up again beside First Among Equals and will jump from gate six with regular rider apprentice Randy Tan taking the mount again.
The Sharon Miller trained It’s It is up 1.5kg on his Beaufine Stakes win and is on the third line of betting at $6 while last start BenchMark 72+ Handicap winner Profit Street is the second pick in the market order at $4.80.
