Golden Slipper Stakes runner up English will be Gai Waterhouse’s only one runner in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday, the first day of ‘The Championships’.

Waterhouse has reported that English has pulled up in fine order after running a gallant second to stablemate Vancouver in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill on March 21.
“She’s fantastic. Her work on Saturday morning was absolutely super,” Waterhouse told AAP.
English scored on debut in a 1000m Kembla Grange maiden on January 31 before going on win the Group 2 $300,000 Guinness Reisling Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on March 7 and earn a start in the Golden Slipper Stakes.
The Encosta De Lago filly then ran the race of her life when she loomed up in the straight alongside her imposing stablemate Vancouver who went on to beat her by three quarters of a length.
French jockey Thomas Huet will ride English in the Sires replacing the suspended Blake Shinn who was aboard in the Golden Slipper Stakes.
The leading Randwick trainer had decided against continuing Vancouver’s Autumn Carnival Campaign and sent the Medaglia D’Oro colt to paddock before preparing him for the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival.
Waterhouse opted against sending Vancouver around in the Sires and the Group 1 $400,000 Champagne Stakes (1600m) at Randwick two weeks later, denying him the opportunity to win the Triple Crown.
Vancouver looked as though he could have equalled Waterhouse’s 2012 Golden Slipper winner Pierro’s Triple Crown winning performance after he went on to win the Sires and the Champagne Stakes.
Waterhouse is keen to give Vancouver a decent break before preparing him for the 2015 Spring Racing Carnival.
English is on the third line of betting at $8 for the Inlglis Sires with Ladbrokes.com.au behind Pride Of Dubai at $3.60 and Read For Victory at $6.50.
The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Pride Of Dubai is coming back to Sydney after winning the Group 1 $1m Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield on February 28 while Victorian colt Read For Victory is backing up after running fourth in the Golden Slipper Stakes.
