Wearing the silver fern of New Zealand throughout the Sydney Autumn Carnival was the conspicuous runner Fibrillation.

She came into the carnival with very little expected of her but with some good runs leading into the Oaks across wet tracks she came well and truly into contention, even starting the Group 1 as second favourite.

She shapes as a major player when she heads up to Brisbane with much of her competition not making the trip leaving a group predominantly made up of Queensland locals to deal with.

While that’s an advantage the tracks in Brisbane are rapidly drying out meaning she will have to show she can perform on Dead and potentially Good rated tracks as well as the Slow and Heavy surfaces she revelled on down in Sydney.

After finishing fourth in the Australian Oaks her only run has been in a Randwick trial where she came in last, 20 lengths behind Hay List but trainer Tim Martin was happy with her effort.

“We’ll run in the Doomben Roses next weekend and go on to the Oaks hopefully,” he said.

He was happy enough with her Sydney performances knowing that on class alone she was probably slightly out of her depth, so performed valiantly.

“She came through it alright, she actually likes the wet ground, the class was a little bit beyond her so we’re hoping it’ll be a bit easier in Brisbane,” He said.

She seems to be a versatile filly as well with the capability to settle just about anywhere in the field.

“We rode her quiet in the Vinery and ran second, she drew awkwardly in the Oaks and rolled forward but never really settled,” He said.

With plenty of kiwi’s north of the border the filly will have plenty of crowd support but no jockey has yet thrown their hand up to take the ride.

“Damien will be offered the ride, if he doesn’t accept it I guess we’ll look somewhere else,” Martin said.
