Red Cadeaux was included in the 2015 Australian Cup nominations that were released yesterday, but the popular stayer is no certainty to make the trip to Australia and could instead return to Dubai.

Red Cadeaux was previously included in the nominations for the Group 2 Dubai Gold Cup (3200m), Group 1 Dubai World Cup (2000m) and Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic (2410m) and trainer Ed Dunlop’s Racing Manager Chris Humpleby told The Racing Post that a decision on where the nine-year-old will head will be made when Dunlop returns from a holiday in Jamaica at the end of the week and has an in-depth conversation with owner Ronnie Arculli.
“It will be Mr Arculli’s shout and Ed is due to speak to him on Thursday, but we’ve made the entry now as supplementary entries are expensive,” Humpleby said.
“He also has the three nominations at Meydan and we don’t know yet if he has been accepted, although you would think he would probably get in all three.
Again, it will be down to Mr Arculli, but I think the Gold Cup might be where they are leaning this time if he goes to Dubai.
“He is being prepared again for his travels, wherever they might take him.
“He looks fantastic and everyone is happy with him.”
Red Cadeaux has famously had a great deal of success in Australia, finishing second in the Group 1 Melbourne Cup (3200m) in 2011,2013 and 2014, but has also performed without winning in his previous trips to Dubai for the World Cup Meeting.
The Cadeaux Genereux gelding made his debut in the United Arab Emirates when he stormed home from the tail of the field to receive second behind the talented Animal Kingdom in the 2013 edition of the Dubai World Cup and accumulate $2 million in prizemoney for connections.
Red Cadeaux returned to Meydan for another tilt at the Dubai World Cup 12 months later and although he could finish no better than sixth he still did enough to earn another sizeable cheque for Ronnie Arculli.
The veteran galloper has not recorded a race win since he took out the 2012 edition of the Group 1 Hong Kong Vase (2400m), but he has been placed in races like the Dubai World Cup, Group 1 Tenno Sho (3218m), Group 3 Geoffrey Freer Stakes (2671m) and the Melbourne Cup.
