Trainer Chris Waller is set to dominate the 2025 Caulfield Guineas market, saddling up the two top betting fancies who have drawn at opposite ends of the field for the $3 million Group 1 mile (1600m) classic this Saturday.

Waller, who won last spring with Private Life, is chasing his fourth overall success in the feature and back-to-back victories.
Waller’s Duo: Top Weights in the Market
Waller’s main middle-distance hopes are last-start Golden Rose runner-up Wodeton (barrier 10) and the rails-drawn Autumn Boy (barrier 1). Both colts share the top line of betting at $4.20.
Wodeton, a son of the late Wootton Bassett, is kept safe in the market despite only one career win from eight starts, largely due to his status as a dual Group 1 placegetter (including a Golden Slipper second).
The classy colt heads to Melbourne for the first time after running four lengths second behind the runaway Beiwacht in the Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m).
Top stable rider James McDonald has the mount as he tackles a mile for the first time.
His stablemate, Autumn Boy (by The Autumn Sun), also sits at $4.20 in the latest Caulfield Guineas betting markets at Ladbrokes.
The colt entered the spring with hype following consecutive juvenile wins.
Though he finished seventh in the Golden Rose, being caught wide and running out of time, his connections are confident he wants further.
Jockey Jason Collett said the youngster was looking for further, with “a mile even ten furlongs” set to suit.
Last year’s winning jockey, Damian Lane, takes the ride in the feature from the inside alley.
Challenges from Wide Draws
Outside the Waller duo, Group 1 winner Vinrock ($8) is the only other single-figure contender but must overcome a wide barrier 14 with Mark Zahra in the saddle.
The talented I Am Invincible colt, who completed the VRC Sires’ – Inglis Sires’ double last autumn, comes off three solid Melbourne performances, including a last-start fifth in the Group 2 Stutt Stakes.
Ciaron Maher’s in-form colt West Of Swindon, who won the Stutt Stakes (1600m), is also strongly in the mix and aims to emulate the Stutt Stakes – Caulfield Guineas double achieved by the stable’s Griff (2023).
Despite being spot-on for the weekend, he faces an unfavourable barrier 16 with Ben Melham booked.
Maher also has Navy Pilot ($10), drawn perfectly in gate two, and the progressive Observer ($21) in this year’s capacity Caulfield Guineas final field.
Other notable hopes include Planet Red ($13), Romantic Encounter ($13) who was runner-up in the Stutt Stakes, and the Group 1 Champagne Stakes winner, Nepotism ($19), offering potential value for Team Hawkes.
The 2025 Caulfield Guineas is set to run as Caulfield Race 8 at 4:30pm (AEDT) on Saturday’s 10-race card in Melbourne.
