The final Group 1 race of the Queensland Winter Racing Carnival, the 2024 Tattersall’s Tiara, promises to be a thrilling contest with a capacity field of fillies and mares set to do battle at Eagle Farm this Saturday.

The entries are headed by the in-form mare Bella Nipotina, who comes off a runner-up finish in the Stradbroke Handicap.

Despite carrying the top weight in that race, she only went down by a narrow margin.

Now back in her own sex division and at set weights, Bella Nipotina is well-placed to claim her third Group 1 victory.

However, she has been dealt a wide barrier draw (17, although this will come in to 15 with emergencies out).

The widest barrier draw to win the race in recent times came in 2015, when Srikandi saluted from barrier 15 for trainer Ciaron Maher – the same trainer as Bella Nipotina.

Ryan Maloney will take the reins on Bella Nipotina, who is the current favourite in Tattersall’s Tiara betting at $2.70 with Ladbrokes.

The only other runner in single figures in the betting is C’est Magique, trained by Chris Waller, who is at $6 in the Tatt’s Tiara odds online.

This mare recently transferred to Waller’s stable and came out winning her first run for him in the Group 2 Dane Ripper Stakes.

Waller is a two-time winner of the Tattersall’s Tiara and will be hoping C’est Magique can become the first mare since Invincibella (also trained by Waller) in 2019 to complete the Dane Ripper Stakes – Tattersall’s Tiara double.

Waller has three runners in the race, with C’est Magique joined by stablemates Roots ($18) and Vienna Princess ($35).

An interesting runner at each-way odds is the three-year-old filly Roll On High ($11), who is looking to become the first horse of her age group to win the Tattersall’s Tiara since Startantes in 2022.

Other runners with winning hopes include Opal Ridge ($11) and Coeur Volante ($12).

The Tattersall’s Tiara is scheduled for Race 8 at Eagle Farm on Saturday with a post time of 3:58pm (AEST).
