Begg Chasing Millions Berth with Bennetta

Lightly-raced filly Bennetta has joined the race to gain a start in the $1 million Magic Millions Guineas (1200m) after trainer Grahame Begg put in a late nomination earlier this week.

The decision to enter the talented three-year-old came on the back of a dominant win at Canterbury on Saturday where she put paid to her rivals by 2 1/2 lengths in a BM75 event for three-year-olds.

It was just the fourth start of her career but she showed enough to convince her trainer she was worthy of making the journey north to the Gold Coast and now it is simply a matter of playing the waiting game to see if she can gain a start in the 16-horse field.

With $67,500 in prizemoney to her name, Bennetta sits at 28th in the latest order of entry but there are a number of unconfirmed starters above her on the list.

“Bennnetta trying to sneak her way into Magic Millions Guineas,” Begg said on twitter.

“On the borderline fingers crossed.”

Despite the fact the daughter of General Nediym is not guaranteed a start, the bookies are not taking any risks and rushed to install her as third favourite at $5 following news of her nomination.

Just Queensland colt Sizzling ($3) and 2011 Magic Millions Classic winner Driefontein ($4.50) sit above the raw youngster.

Sizzling remains the short-priced favourite despite being upset by Lucky Hussler in the Group 3 Vo Rogue Plate (1350m) when a $1.60 favourite at Doomben on Saturday.

Lucky Hussler jumped to $9 following his upset win while others towards the top of the market include She’s A Stalker ($9), Hoss Amor ($13), No Looking Back ($14) and Heza Jetsetter ($14).
