The Australian Turf Club has released a shortlist of five horses it is considering for its slot in The Everest and the Triple Crown Syndicated Redzel in is hot competition with Brave Smash, Clearly Innocent, Global Glamour and Le Romain.

“It’s been a really great process for ATC we opened up interest to trainers both here and overseas we were delighted to have 24 horses apply for the slot,” ATC chief executive Darren Pearce said.

“Yesterday we had an ATC board meeting to reduce that number down to five.

“Those five horses are Brave Smash, Clearly innocent, Global Glamour, Le Romain and Redzel.

“We wanted to personally thank all those who applied. We were honoured to receive those applications.

“The final list shuffled around as we worked through the form and now we have a more difficult task in reducing that list of five down to one.

“Negotiations will be ongoing with those five over the next weeks and they all bring together different form lines.”

The Team Snowden trained Redzel claimed a Group 1 victory during the 2017 Brisbane Winter Carnival with an all the way win in the $700,000 James Boag’s Premium Doomben 10000 (1200m) at Doomben and then resumed from a spell with the same front running display to win the Group 3 $150,000 Concorde Stakes (1000m) at Randwick on last Saturday.

“Redzel is going from strength from strength,” Pearce said.

“He won the Doomben 10,000 and it was a great win here on Saturday.”

Redzel is likely to have his next race starts in the Group 1 $500,000 Moir Stakes (1000m) at The Valley on September 29 and a good performance there will go a long way to securing a slot in The Everest.

Redzel is currently rated a $13 chance for the The Everest at Ladbrokes.com.au who have the Team Hawkes trained Chautauqua as the $4.80 favourite.

Last Saturday’s Memsie Stakes winner Vega Magic is the second pick at $5 just ahead of the 2107 Golden Slipper winner She Will Reign at $6 and the Magic Millions 2yo Classic winner Houtzen, Newmarket Handicap winner Redkirk Warrior and the Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained English at $11.
