Talented gelding Dothraki has delivered Peter and Paul Snowden the final black type title of the 2015 Brisbane Winter Carnival this afternoon; producing an impressive late kick to take out the Group 3 WJ Healy Stakes (1200m) on the Gold Coast.
Jumping from the gates well, veteran hoop Damian Browne immediately led Dothraki forward and settled in prime position on the heels of early leader Rocket To Glory, who set a noticeably quick tempo towards the turn.
Finding the final straight in the clear, Dothraki immediately charged forward and locked in a fierce sprint battle with Target In Sight, and while appearing to fall off the pace momentarily, mustered an impressive kick to hit the line a head in the closer; Rocket To Glory maintaining for third.
Browne was pleased with the feel offered up by the four-year-old in the 2015 WJ Healy Stakes and is confident he will only take greater condition from the performance.
“His form’s been pretty good and probably the right race for him,” Browne said after crossing the line.
“He travelled beautifully throughout and probably got to the front a bit soon doing it too easily. When the second horse came up to him he really dug in.
“We’ve had a terrific Carnival right through with the weather and thankfully it held through to today.”
Peter Snowden was on hand for Dothraki’s WJ Healy Stakes win and confirmed the Listed Ramornie Handicap (1200m) at Grafton on July 8th is pencilled in as his next competitive point of call.
“He’s a bit of a bugger when he gets to the front, he half pulls-up,”
“He travels so well in the run and it’s just a matter of letting him go but he dashed a length in front and I did tell Damien just be careful he doesn’t switch off too quickly.
“Once the second horse came at him he picked up again and he was good late, very strong through the line.
“He gave a great ride, gave every possible chance the way the track is he was in the right place, right spot and right result.
“I’d say he’d be a perfect Ramornie Horse. As long as the handicapper doesn’t get at him too much today it’s where we had marked to go next.”
Dothraki has now posted two wins from as many starts at the Gold Coast, having beaten a classy field to the line in the Group 3 Gold Coast Guineas (1200m) during the 2014 Brisbane Winter Carnival.
