Any other three year old event and Zamorar probably receives a good deal of attention in the lead up to the race but as it stands the Coolmore Stud Stakes is a whole other story.

He’s competing with the likes of superstar colt Sepoy, imported threat Bear Hero and the rampaging Hot Snitzel.

As a result he’s flown under the radar despite showing some good signs in the lower grades.

He debuted in a Seymour maiden and ran second back on August 7, a race that usually wouldn’t mean too much expect for the fact that the winner was Hallowell Belle and he was less than half a length away

After that he had a bit of break before returning at Bendigo where he recorded a three and a half length domination over a 1000m trip.

From there it was to metro level and another convincing win, this time nearly two lengths over Vatican at Moonee Valley across 1200m.

It’s a good series of form to carry into the race for a horse that’s fit but also still fresh and ready to fire.

“He’s been very impressive at the races, he’s not real impressive at home,” trainer David Bourne said.

“He deserves his chance in the field.”

As for how he will be ridden in his first trip up the straight Bourne says that will all rest with jockey Steven Arnold.

“I’m not one for too many instructions for the good riders, I’ll speak to Steve about it, he’s got the knowledge of riding up the straight,” he said.

“There’s only so much you can do over 1200m on a horse that races in the first half of the field.”

He says things have worked out quite well this preparation with the unplanned long breaks between runs probably working in his favour.

“The gap between his first and second was because he got into a bit of a dual with Hallowell Belle,” he said.

“It was just a matter of finding the right race…I was aiming at giving him one more start, ended up picking this one.”

While many would say bringing down Sepoy is a bridge too far, Bourne is confident his horse will represent himself in a  good manner.

“The horse is really well, I go to the races thinking that he’s in really good order,” he said.

“I think he’s got a good run in him…I do feel that he’s slowly improved as we’ve gone along.”
