Dean Yendall will ride Chase The Rainbow in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude

Striking grey colt Chase The Rainbow is burning a path to the 2011 Caulfield Guineas after a string of good results since returning this season.

He’s only had four runs throughout his career to date but since August he’s run three times for two wins and a second.

His two triumphs came at the Geelong Synthetic track but if there were any doubts about the jump in class he took care of those last start.

He ran at Listed level in the Henry Bucks Stakes and flew home to finish second only narrowly behind the winner Specter.

He was last when they made the turn so he certainly attracted a heap of followers with that performance.

Dean Yendall is the man who will be riding him this weekend in the Caulfield Guineas Prelude on his way to the main event and he says versatility is the key to his success.

While he went back last start there’s no reason he won’t be sitting a lot closer after drawing gate two for this weekend.

“We elected to go back from that bad gate (last start), all in all it was a really good run from him,” he said.

“It’s just teaching him to switch off which he did.”

He says the horse has travelled brilliantly since his last start and he should be in top condition come this weekend.

“He’s really strong, hasn’t missed a beat..he’s just a lovely animal,” he said.

He says he’ll be there at the death knowing that he can definitely run out a strong 1400m.

“He’s just got to put his right foot forward when he needs to, I think he’s going to be really competitive,” he said.

As for taking on the likes of Helmet he says he’s happy to take advantage of any benefit he can find.

“They’ve got to come over here from Sydney, what’s to say the travelling doesn’t take it out of them by the time they get here,” he said.

“For their sake we hope it doesn’t happen but for our sake we probably do.”
