Australia’s super star mare Winx plus ten others make up the nominations for the 2017 Group 2 $250,000 Warwick Stakes (1400m) at Randwick on Saturday.

Winx will kick off her 2017 Spring Carnival in the Warwick Stakes on her way to attempting to win her third successive Group 1 $3m Ladbrokes Cox Plate (2040m) at The Valley on October 28.

Winx will be having her first run back since winning the Group 1 $4m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on April 8, her seventeenth win on the trot, and will head into Saturday’s weight for age contest with two recent Randwick barrier trials under her belt.

The Chris Waller trained mare finished third in a 900m trial on July 24 and then scored her first ever barrier trial win over 1000m on August 8.

Waller was very happy with Winx’s latest hit out and expects her to be spot on for her return to the race track on the weekend.

“That will just take the edge off of her and see her at the Warwick Stakes in picture perfect order,” Waller told the press conference following Winx’s trial win.

Waller has also nominated Winx’s stablemates Antonio Giuseppe, Foxplay and Who Shot Thebarman who will all be first up in the Warwick Stakes.

Leading Newcastle trainer Kris Lees has entered his smart mare Invincible Gem who returned to the race track in winning fashion with her victory in the Group 2 $200,000 Missile Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on August 5.

Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott has nominated Ecuador for the Warwick Stakes and the High Chaparral gelding performed well at Group 1 level during the 2017 Melbourne Spring Carnival with two thirds at Caulfield in the $500,000 Ladbrokes C.F. Orr Stakes (1400m) and in the $500,000 italktravel Futurity Stakes (1400m)

Rosehill trainer Gerald Rayn has nominated Harper’s Choice and Red Excitement, James Cummings has entered his stayer Allergic, Teams Hawkes has Randwick Guineas winner Inference and John Thompson has nominated the seven year old mare Zanbagh.

The Australian Turf Club has extended the nominations for the Warwick Stakes until 11am on Tuesday August 15, 2017 with the final acceptances being at 9am on Wednesday August 16, 2017
