Classy colt Weinholt will be scratched from the Listed Gold Edition Plate (1200m) at Doomben on Saturday after drawing the outside barrier for the $100,000 event.
Weinholt was set to return to the races for the first time since he failed to fire in the Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m) during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival but Moody will now be looking for another target for the Stratum colt.
The three-year-old has recorded just two wins from nine career starts but performed well around the likes of Long John and Shamus Award in the Listed McKenzie Stakes (1200m), Listed Henry Bucks Best Dressed Stakes (1400m) and Group 3 Caulfield Guineas Prelude (1400m) and would have been one of the favourites to take out the Gold Edition Plate.
The withdrawal of Weinholt takes some of the x-factor out of the Gold Edition Plate but it is still set to be an exciting race; with talented Brisbane-based three-year-olds Rudy and Into The Red facing off after quinellaing the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap (1110m) at Doomben on November 30.
Rudy finished his winter campaign with two straight victories at the Gold Coast and Eagle Farm and returned to the races with a credible sixth place finish behind Missing Page in the 1300 Go Broncos Handicap (1000m) at Eagle Farm.
The Red Dazzler gelding was well-backed in the lead-up to the Hardy Brothers Jewellers Handicap and was not fazed by the heavy track; producing a strong performance to hold off a fast-finishing Into The Red and Missing Page.
Into The Red started his racing career with a sixth place finish behind Vo Heart in the Group 2 Champagne Classic (1200m) and stamped himself as a colt to watch with an impressive victory at Eagle Farm in the Love My Wines Handicap (1000m).
The victory earned the son of Not A Single Doubt a trip to Sydney for the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival and he finished a credible seventh in the Group 3 The Run To The Rose (1200m) before finishing at the tail of the field in the Group 1 Golden Rose Stakes (1400m).
Rudy isn’t the only horse taking winning form into the Gold Edition Plate; with Bel Esprit gelding Architect, the undefeated Smart Huss and Tony Gollan-trained Gundy Spirit all included in the final field for the Listed event.
