The connections of yesterday’s Listed Placid Ark Stakes (1200m) winner Watermans Bay are contemplating stepping up in class and distance to the Group 3  Sir Ernest Lee-Steere Classic (1400m) at Ascot on December 10.

On  Saturday, the son of Eternity Range scored a last to first win and bowled over the odds on Night War in runaway fashion.

The two race favourites controlled the race in front as Paul Harvey aboard Flying Affair ($4.20) led Night War ($1.90) approaching the home turn.

Jockey Pat Carbery, travelling  so well, gave Night War his head rounding the turn.

The move may have been a tad early, his trainer Simon Miller thought as much.

Troy Turner aboard Watermans Bay happily settled at the back of the field.

He saved ground inside the struggling In Edens Honour on the home turn and flashed down the outside to win running away.

The win was just reward for breeders John and Sharon Molloy who have been breeding horses for 20 years.

Fittingly, Watermans Bay’s dam Parisian Princess ran third in the 1997 Placid Ark.

It was Waterman Bay’s third win in just five starts and the three-year-old gelding took his earnings to $115,600.

He is yet to venture beyond 1200m and while his dam struggled beyond that journey, his sire’s stock get up to 2000m.

Son of the trainer Peter Giadresco and stable foreman Matt revealed Watermans Bay’s original spring target was WA Guineas (1600m) on November 19.

“We have a very high opinion of him,” Giadresco said

“He’s now won over 1000m and 1200m and he could go further.

Turner is having a good carnival adding the Placid Ark to his win in the Listed Carbine Club Trophy on Grey Monarch on November 19.
