When Glencadam Gold won a midweek race at Cantebury earlier this month, trainer Gai Waterhouse declared him a Caulfield Cup hope.

While it is not unusual for the high profile Sydney trainer to make big predictions about her charges, sometimes she is proven correct.

She was right about Pierro when she said the boom colt would win the Golden Slipper after he won on debut last spring.

Whether or not another of her bold predictions comes true won’t be known until later this year but race fans will see if the British import is on track when he contests the Listed Premier’s Cup (1800m) at Rosehill on Saturday.

In his first Australian hitout, the five-year-old started as a short-priced favourite and after looking like he may be beaten, he showed toughness to edge out Brian’s Honour over 1550 metres.

Waterhouse said on her blog today that she “can’t wait” to see the son of Refuse To Blend in action this weekend and is expecting an improved showing.

“I can’t tell you how much this horse has settled down over the past few weeks,” Waterhouse said.

“I find that all the imported horses are highly strung when they first come into the big smoke and it’s only after a preparation that they really start to settle.”

Formerly trained by Sir Henry Cecil, the trainer of British superstar Frankel, Glencadam Gold had eight starts before arriving in Australia from which he recorded two victories and three other finishes inside the top three.

The lightly-raced gelding is currently second favourite ($3.70) for Saturday’s second-up run behind Chris Waller’s British import Stout Hearted ($2.30).

Stout Hearted will be chasing a third consecutive win on Saturday in what will be his seventh start since joining the Waller stable from the UK.
