Gai Waterhouse appears primed to dominate this week’s Newcastle Cup Carnival with the star Sydney trainer boasting top chances in all four feature races.

Kicking off tomorrow with the Group 2 Spring Stakes (1600m) and the Group 3 Cameron Handicap (1500m), Waterhouse has the favourites in both opening day’s stakes races as well as the likely favourites in Thursday’s Group 3 Newcastle Cup (2300m) and Listed Tibbie Stakes.

Talented colt Proisir is the $1.55 top elect for the Spring Stakes after winning the first two starts of his career in dominant fashion.

The son of Choisir won by two lengths on debut at Hawkesbury early last month before beating Bart Cummings-trained filly Norzita by 2 1/2 lengths at Rosehill on September 1.

With a barrier one draw and Nash Rawiller aboard, Proisir is well placed to continue his winning streak with the most likely danger to come from Darley colt Proverb ($4.50).

The hall of fame trainer has in-form gelding Kontiki Park in the Cameron Handicap who heads the market at $3.80.

The consistent seven-year-old has opened his spring campaign in terrific fashion with a first-up win at Rosehill backed up by a close runner-up finish in the Group 3 Tramway Handicap.

The genuine winning chances continue on day two as import Glencadam Gold continues his journey towards some of the spring’s biggest staying races.

Since arriving at Waterhouse’s stables from the UK, the four-year-old has won twice from two starts including the Listed Premier’s Cup by two lengths earlier this month.

Following the Premier’s Cup victory, Waterhouse declared she would chase the Melbourne Cup with the gelding who is also nominated for the Caulfield Cup and the Metropolitan.

Also taking place on Thursday is the Tibbie Stakes (1400m) for which Waterhouse has entered Miss Stellabelle who was most recently seen winning the Listed Mona Lisa Stakes by 2 1/2 lengths at Wyong on September 7.
