Gai Waterhouse isn’t shying away from talking herself up coming into the next week of racing claiming she’s in an ideal position to claim a number of top level races.

In fact over the next four days she’s hoping for no less than four individual Group 1 titles including the 2011 Melbourne Cup.

Her quest begins tomorrow at Flemington where she has promising three year old Niagara in the Victoria Derby.

Niagara was widely considered to have been unlucky in his last start before he finally got clear and fired home a brutal last sectional.

He looks set to run the trip but luck is once again against him as he’s drawn barrier 18.

As always though it’s not going to get Waterhouse down.

“I don’t have much feeling on it, I don’t worry about barriers,” she said.

In terms of what she can control the horse is reportedly going great.

“He’s there he’s a very fit horse, he’s a very a talented horse and he’ll run a super race,” she said.

When quizzed as to whether he might be feeling the pinch in the final furlong..

“He won’t be, he’s not that sort of horse, he’s a real class act,” she said.

“He’s lightly raced, a lot of talent, very strong horse and his work on Tuesday was excellent.”

Her banker of the day though is without a doubt More Joyous which will contest the Myer Classic.

She’s a hot favourite after overcoming Sister Madly last start and looks primed for success at level weights third up for her prep.

“She’ll win that race tomorrow, she’s too good for them, too strong,” Waterhouse said.

“Why wouldn’t she win this, she’s brilliantly weighted and she’s going brilliantly.

“I think she’ll gobble them up personally.”

Tullamore is nominated for the Mackinnon Stakes tomorrow as well but it seems at the moment he’s not a guaranteed starter.

Tullamore has had a tough campaign of late trying to qualify for the Melbourne Cup and he currently sits just outside the cut off.

In reality he’ll probably squeeze in anyway but Waterhouse may want to guarantee herself a spot. It’s a big call though because come Tuesday the horse may well simply have nothing left.

“It’s a funny position to be in,” she said.

“If I had my way I’d prefer not to run him and take him straight to the race.”

Her horse that is guaranteed to be in the Melbourne Cup field is Older Than Time, a $150 chance she’s begging people not to discount.

She will definitely run in the Mackinnon tomorrow in an unlikely double attempt that Waterhouse says she can achieve.

“She’s going sensationally and I think she can win both races,” she said.
