Premier trainer Chris Waller’s three runners dominate the betting in the Listed $100,000 The Paslode Winter Challenge (1500m) at Rosehill on Saturday.
Waller will saddle up Rugged Cross, You’ll Never and Eigelstein in the first Stakes race of the new racing season and bookmakers at Ladbrokes.com.au have installed them as the three top chances in a very tight market order.
With the Rosehill track rated in the Soft range, You’ll Never gets the nod as the favourite at $4.60 just of his stablemate Rugged Cross who has drifted from $4.40 to $4.80.
Glyn Schofield is the new rider for Eiglestein and he is hoping to improve his chances and he is on the third line of betting at $5.
You’ll Never will be better suited coming back to a soft rated track following a third in the $85,000 Perfection Fresh Handicap (1500m) on June 27 and his unplaced effort when seventh as favourite in the Listed $100,000 Sydney Markets Limited Winter Stakes (1400m) on July 18, both on heavy tracks at Rosehill.
The Commands five year old was in peak form at the beginning of this campaign on soft ground with two wins at Rosehill in a 1350m BenchMark 95 on May 9 and in the $85,000 Octagonal Handicap (1400m) on May 30.
Rugged Cross was back in the winner’s circle last start on a heavy track in the Winter Stakes but has never put two wins together.
Eigelstein is another who will appreciate a better racing surface after finishing third in the heavy to Kenjorwood in the $85,000 Shout Out Mile (1600m) at Randwick on July 11.
The Dubawi gelding was last in the winner’s stall in June 2014 when he won a 1600m BenchMark 94 at Randwick.
In a hotly contested betting race the Peter Moody trained Noela’s Choice is also well fancied at $5.50 as is Great Esteem at $6.50 and Paul Perry’s Wouldnt It Be Nice at $7.
The rest of the field are at long odds with Keepit To Yourself at $21, Spurtonic at $31, Canny Ballad at $41 and Disclaimer at $51.
