Racing fans who endured the delay saw their patience rewarded as Matt Laurie‘s heavily favoured Treasurethe Moment delivered a stylish victory in the rescheduled 2025 Vinery Stud Stakes at Rosehill on Tuesday.
The Group 1 $750,000 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), initially postponed due to Saturday’s washout, saw Damian Lane guide the brilliant Alabama Express filly Treasurethe Moment ($1.40F) to a decisive one-length win.
The spring’s VRC Oaks champion extended her winning streak to seven, securing her second Group 1 victory, despite showing signs of being slightly unsettled mid-race.
“She’s a dream horse. She’ll learn a lot today. I think she got a little bit lost. She didn’t have that trail. They spread out enough and she was sitting out on a limb with nothing really there to follow,” Laurie told Sky Thoroughbred Central.
“Looked a little bit lost but when she got into it she was really good late so she’s only going to be better for the experience.
“It is great to win another Group 1 and great to win one for Yulong.”
Lane positioned Treasurethe Moment third on the turn, and when asked, the filly responded strongly, taking the lead 300m out and racing clear of her rivals.
“She’s very uncomplicated. She went to the barriers well and she has trained on her Sydney leg,” Lane said.
“The race worked out well.”
Lane also noted that Treasurethe Moment would have performed even better on firmer ground.
“She didn’t love the Heavy ground but because she’s so honest she just kept on keeping on,” he said.
“On the softer ground she didn’t quicken as well as what she normally would but she’s so honest and I think she’ll handle whatever you throw at her. She’ll excel, though, on firm ground.”
Benagil ($12), trained by Glen Thompson, finished second, while Chris Waller‘s Declichy Boulevard ($11) secured third place after fighting on well to hold for the placing.
Treasurethe Moment will now target the Group 1 $1 million Australian Oaks (2400m) at Randwick on April 12.
“She is proven at that distance and she’s going to lap it up,” Laurie said.
“She’s just got better and better. We have been here (in Sydney) for nearly a fortnight, and she lost a little bit of weight on the way up and wasn’t completely settled but as we got deeper, she got better and better and I was pleased with her today.
“Ten days into the Oaks will be perfect.”
Hungry Heart (2021) was the last filly to complete the Vinery Stud Stakes/Australian Oaks double.
“Updated 2025 Australian Oaks all-in odds at Ladbrokes now have Treasurethe Moment at $1.60 to be the next,” a betting analyst from Races.com.au noted.
