Verry Elleegant worked on Tuesday morning with James McDonald in the saddle and both trainer and jockey were very happy with the way she looked and felt.

“On her toes as usual, fresh early in her campaign.” Waller said on twitter.

“Happy with how she is going and how she has returned and looking forward to her Spring campaign unfolding.”

“Excellent,” McDonald said.

“She came back in tremendous order, free in her action.”

Verry Elleegant streeted her rivals with a four and a quarter lengths win in the Group 1 $1.5m Kia Tancred Stakes (2400m) at Rosehill on March 28 and Waller said after that win that the mare would be set for the  Group 1 $5m Caulfield Cup (2400m) at Caulfield on October 17 and the Group 1 $8m Melbourne Cup (3200m) at Flemington on November 3.

“The Caulfield Cup would be high on our radar and even a Melbourne Cup,” Waller said after her Tancred Stakes win.

“Let’s hope we get weighted as well as some of the other horses from around the world and they keep giving the Australian horses a chance. She’ll be there and she’ll be one of them.”

“She was here last year running in an Oaks and I think she won the Vinery a year ago. She has been everywhere but she is still getting better. She is only four and racing against the older horses basically. She is just a genuine athlete at a staying trip.”

Verry Elleegant was sent for a well deserved break after running a game second to Addeybb in the Group 1 $2m Longines Queen Elizabeth Stakes (2000m) at Randwick on Day Two of The Championships on April 11.

Early Melbourne Cup betting at Ladbrokes.com.au has Verry Elleegant marked at $26 while in the Caulfield Cup she is on the third line of betting at $12 behind the Team Hawkes trained Master Of Wine at $9 and South Australian Derby winner Russian Camelot at $11.
