Trainer Jason Coyle has revealed that returning Australian jockey Tye Angland has been booked to ride Scream Machine in the 2014 Doomben 10,000 this weekend.
Angland spent four years riding in Hong Kong and had plenty of success, but has opted to return to Australian for personal reasons and will make his official return to Australian racing at the Randwick Kensington tomorrow where he has picked up a book of six rides.
Coyle told Racing Ahead this morning that Scream Machine would return to Group 1 level, for the first time since his ninth place finish in the Epsom Handicap during the 2013 Spring Racing Carnival, and said that he was happy to give Angland an opportunity at Group level in the Doomben 10,000.
“Tye Angland has been engaged to ride,” Coyle said.
“He comes back from Hong Kong and I am sure that he will be hungry for success and it will be good to have him on board.”
Scream Machine returned to the races with a solid third behind Tromso and Calvo in the Power Access Handicap (1350m) at Rosehill Gardens on May 10, in what was the best first-up performance of his career.
Coyle said that he was happy with the performance of Scream Machine and said that the Excites gelding has taken plenty of benefit out of the run, but admits that the five-year-old will need to be at his very best to be competitive in the Doomben 10,000.
“It was a solid performance and he pulled up fantastic from the run,” Coyle said.
“I had him really forward for that because I really wanted to see if it was worth going up to Queensland and I have been really happy with him over the last two weeks hence the reason that we will accept.
“It was probably one of his best and the race didn’t look like it had a lot of speed on paper, but we had drawn a perfect barrier and Christian rode him a treat, so the result was probably better than a lot of his previous results, but I think that he has run just as well in the past.
“He doesn’t need a lot of work and we are trying to keep him on the fresh side to do what we are doing.
“What we have done with him has been first class, but it is going to need to be to take on the company that he is going to try and take on.”
Scream Machine is currently available at 2014 Doomben Cup odds of $41; with Rebel Dane ($3.80) still a narrow favourite from Buffering ($4), Spirit Of Boom ($5) and Knoydart ($9).
