Former West Australian trained Tradesman gets his chance to score another win for the Darren Weir stable after drawing a midfield barrier in the 2018 Listed $175,000 Channel 7 Ipswich Cup (2150m) at Ipswich on Saturday.
Tradesman has had five runs for the Weir stable for one win, three starts back, over 1700m during the Warrnambool Cup Carnival in May and was back in the minor prizemoney last start with a second to Egg Tart in the Group 2 $200,000 Bradford Access Insulation P.J. O’Shea Stakes (2200m) at the Sunshine Coast on June 2.
Dean Yendall was aboard Tradesman at the Sunshine Coast and he is certain to give the six year old every chance from barrier five in the eleven horse Ipswich Cup field.
The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Ecuador has drawn barrier two with Tegan Harrison taking over from Tim Clark who was aboard last start for a ninth to Hopfgarten, on a heavy track, in the Listed $100,000 The Wayne Wilson (1600m) at Doomben last Saturday.
The front running Ecuador will be right at home on the tight turning Ipswich track and will be hard to run down if let to do his own thing in front.
Chris Waller has accepted with two runners, Tumultuous and My Giuliano, in the Ipswich Cup with mixed results at the barrier draw.
My Giuliano has drawn nicely at barrier four with Michael Cahill booked to ride while Tumultuous has drawn out wide at ten for Corey Brown.
Both stayers have been out of the prizemoney of late with My Giuliano coming off a last start sixth over 1800m at the Gold Coast on May 23 while Tumultuous was a well beaten ninth in the Group 3 $125,000 Channel Seven Premier’s Cup (2200m) at Doomben on May 26.
Smart As You Think stepped up to a middle distance weight for age race for the first time last start and wasn’t disgraced to finish fourth to Egg Tart in the P.J. O’Shea Stakes and looks well placed in the Ipswich Cup.
The John McArdie trained mare has drawn barrier nine with James Orman in the saddle again.
