With Hinchinbrook out of the Golden Jubilee and being retired to stud we need to look a bit further afield to find an Australian influence throughout the remainder of the Royal Ascot carnival.
While Star Witness is still a big player in the Golden Jubilee, there are also two Aussie jockeys riding on the final two days of the carnival.
Hugh Bowman is considered by many to be on the top rung of jockeys in Australia and that reputation has been credited with four mounts over the next two days.
They are all for trainer Mich Channon who Bowman has ridden for previously, his first coming tonight our time with three to follow tomorrow.
He has a decent chance tonight as well with Gallic Star running in the 2000m Listed Wolferton Handicap.
His biggest challenge tomorrow will be on Momkinzain in the Queen Alexandra Stakes, a monster ride across a 4300m journey.
He’s not the only Aussie in action either with Clare Lindop getting a crack on Saturday with Medicean Man in the Wokingham Stakes over 1200m.
She only has the one ride so will be looking to make it count, especially given it’s for former Adelaide based trainer Jeremy Gask.
It’s been a disappointing week for Australia at Royal Ascot so far with Star Witness starting off the carnival with a heartbreaking second to Prohibit in the Kings Stand Stakes.
Our most solid chance So You Think then suffered the same result when he was run down by Rewilding in the Prince Of Wales Stakes as a huge short priced favourite.
Things got even worse last night when Hinchinbrook was not only withdrawn from the Golden Jubilee but retired from racing all together.
Something can still be salvaged from the carnival though and if Star Witness can bounce back and Bowman and Lindop find a winner over the final couple of days Australia can still make its mark at the famous English racecourse.
