Tomorrow at Rosehill is Inglis Classic Day and there’s going to be a heap of disappointed trainers when the day ends.

This is the case every weekend but tomorrow it’ll be more prominent, especially for those represented in the main event.

The joy of two year old racing for many is the hope and optimism it brings but all that hype  makes a failure hurt that little more.

Just about every horse in the Inglis Classic is being talked up as a winning hope today and for Gregory Hickman it’s no different with Taxmeifyoucan.

The gelding has had just the one trial coming into his debut race, a close third over 800m on a slow Warwick Farm track.

“We were very happy, he’s still a bit green this horse but you can’t not have a crack at this race, we strive to it each year,” Hickman said.

“I thought the trial was good, he’ll improve.”

Taxmeifyoucan would create a great story were he to be successful tomorrow as well, the horse bought for a mere $14,000.

“Last year we went out and had a look at the horses and he sort of shot out to my eye,” Hickman said.

“We bought him for the cheap price of $14,000 and all he’s done is keep on improving.”

Taxmeifyoucan will jump from gate two tomorrow which the trainer is hoping puts him in the perfect spot.

“He’s still a little bit green this horse but he’ll get a nice run in the race and I think you’ll find his best work will be the last 100m,” he said.

Hickman says the horse will see his best races over 1400m and a mile as a three year old but he does have enough early pace to hold a position.

Hickman is a regular feature in the Inglis Classic and he’s certainly a fond participant of their program.

“This sale has been very good to us, we’ve always had something that’s come out of it and gone the right way,” he said.
