Solicit leads all the way to win The Mitty’s Vanity

Trainer Matthew Ellerton predicts an exciting future for Solicit who led all of the way to take out the Group 3 $150,000 The Mittys Vanity (1400m) at Flemington today.

Ellerton will now start to map out a Autumn Carnival plan for Solicit who was having her first run since running third to Kirramosa in the Group 1 $1m Crown Oaks (2500m) at Flemington in November.

“We will be guided by her. She’s a bit wishy washy in the coat today and hope she cleans up and hope she goes home and does well,” Ellerton said.

“She’s got it before her, she’s exciting for us.”

“She has grown up a lot and like I said the Spring seasoned her well.”

Solicit was sent out the $2.90 favourite on the strength of her good Spring form that also saw her run third to Kirramosa in the Group 2 $300,000 Wakeful Stakes (2000m) at Flemington on November 2.

Ellerton didn’t tie down jockey Damian Lane with any specific riding instructions, but wasn’t surprised to see the filly setting a good tempo out in front.

“I thought she would lead, she’s pretty fresh,” Ellerton said.

“We left the plans open for Damian.”

Lane had no hesitation in taking Solicit straight to the front and apart from runner up Critical Angel ($51) trying to keep in touch, the rest of the field was many lengths away.

Chad Schofield on Critical Angel tried to put some pressure on Solicit on the home turn but the favourite found another gear at the 250m and ran away to score a comfortable two and three quarters lengths win from Critical Angel with Girl In Flight ($6.50) a further three and a half lengths away in third spot.

Lane, who was riding on a stay of proceedings pending an appeal against a careless riding suspension, was pleased to get a win on the filly after missing out in the Spring.

“She’s a class filly. Last prep I was suspended and missed the chance to win on her at Moonee Valley and I never got back on her and its good to get back on her on a winning note and hopefully I can stick with her,” Lane said.
