A soft Randwick track on Saturday will help the chances of the Lindsay Park trained filly Zamzam in the Group 1 $1m Inglis Sires’ (1400m).

The Randwick surface for the first day of ‘The Championships’ was rated a heavy 8 on Thursday morning and with fine weather forecast in the lead up to the weekend will see it upgraded into the soft category.
“I expect a soft (6) come Saturday morning,” Randwick track manager Navesh Ramdhani said.
“And I reckon there is a good chance we will get an upgrade to a soft (5) during the day.”
Zamzam is the winner of two of her four race starts with both victories coming on rain affected ground.
“I think the ground is going to be good for her because her two wins have been on softish tracks and any cut in the ground won’t worry her too much either,” co-trainer Tom Dabernig told Racenet.
Zamzam scored on debut on a soft 5 track in a 1000m Moonee Valley two year old on January 29 and then made it two wins on a rain affected track with a last start win in the Listed $120,000 Spicer Thoroughbred Valley Pearl (1200m) at Moonee Valley on March 18 on a soft 7.
While Dabernig is looking forward to stepping the Redoute’s Choice filly out to the 1400m of the Inglis Sires’, he has some minor concerns at handling her first test at the Sydney way of going.
“I’m excited to see her out over further than 1200m and she hasn’t really run a bad race. She’s always doing her best work late and she’s an athletic filly,” Dabernig said.
“Zamzam has got good experience to take into her first run up there. She’s a question mark as well first go Sydney way but she’s indicated that she’s going to get better as she gets out further.”
Dabernig and co-trainer David Hayes will also saddle up Seaburge in the Inglis Sires’ and the Sebring colt is also tackling the Sydney direction for the first time.
“I thought he was impressive last start but his first run on his Sydney leg, it’s a question mark but he’s certainly a talented and classy colt,” Dabernig said.
Seaburge is the winner of two of his three race starts and is looking to claim a second Sires’ trophy after winning the Group 2 $200,000 MSS Security Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m) at Flemington on March 12.
Dabernig said the stable has a very high opinion of Seaburge and think he is a definite Caulfield Guineas three year old in the Spring.
“Seaburge is a very good colt. We think he’s a Caulfield Guineas-type horse in the spring,” Dabernig said.
Seaburge is marked as an $8 chance for the Inglis Sires’ at Ladbrokes.com.au and has drawn out wide at barrier eleven with Mark Zahra to ride while Zamzam is at the good double figure odds of $18 and will jump from gate seven with Nicholas Hall in the saddle.
The David Vandyke trained filly Yankee Rose at $3.70 holds a slight advantage over Telperion at $3.90 at the top of the market order.
