So You Think has been confirmed for the Arc de Triomphe

Coolmore has finally lifted the lid on the worst kept secret in European racing and confirmed that So You Think will run in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe later this year.

It seemed an obvious choice but Coolmore had previously refused to acknowledge they were their plans saying they were keeping their options open.

With the Arc no confirmed though Australian’s can anticipate the run of So You Think in what many consider to be the world’s most prestigious race.

Trainer Aidan O’Brien set the record straight saying the expat Aussie will be at Longchamp on October second.

“So You Think is in great form and all being well with him, the plan is to run in the Arc, given reasonable ground conditions,” O’Brien said.

Australia has never won the Arc with New Zealand also yet to break their maiden, however they did run second with Balmerino way back in 1977.

The best Aussie performance in memory is probably the effort of Strawberry Road who ran sixth in 1984.

With So You Think New Zealand bred but raced and formerly trained in Australia he’d be a win for both countries and according to the experts he’s a great hope to do so.

In fact only Sarafina is challenging him for favouritism in the early markets.

So You Think is continuing to raise the bar of Australian middle distance horses after the internationals long declared our ranks only good for sprint events.

He’s won four races from five starts including three Group 1 triumphs.

Such is his success that he currently sits just four points behind the unbeaten Frankel in the European horse of the year rankings.
