Sepoy wins the Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint

Darley trainer Peter Snowden labeled Sepoy a champion after he won the Group 2 Perri Cutten Caulfield Sprint today.

Sepoy took his record to nine wins from 10 starts when comfortably holding his opponents in the final stages.

Jumping moderately from barrier one, jockey Kerrin McEvoy had the Elusive Quality colt outside Platinum Skye who led.

That horse rallied to the 300m mark before Sepoy took over and opened a break.

The Peter Moody trained duo Curtana (second btn 1-1/4l) and Mid Summer Music (a further head third) both ran on well, evening looking a hope at the 100m mark.

Sepoy did what he had to but could be showing signs of a long campaign.

“He just ran 1.03.11, he is a very special horse , he had everything against him (conditions of the race) and showed the true qualities he has,” Snowden said.

“What he has done, not many horses have done, only champion horses and believe me, he is one of them.

“I am pretty hard on the ones I call special and this fellow is still learning his trade.”
Snowden said Sepoy was 12 months away from taking on Black Caviar.

“He is getting better and better and learning more what he should do and  is just a very good horse,” Snowden said.

“He is in the zone now and my job is to keep him there for another two weeks.”
Sepoy, a Blue Diamond/Golden Slipper winner,  will have his final race this campaign in the $1m Group 1 Patinack Classic (1200m) at Flemington on November 5.
