Singapore Likely for Linton

Linton has come through his first-up test against Black Caviar in the William Reid Stakes unscathed and will now be set on a path towards the Group 1 Singapore Airlines International Cup on May 19.

The six-year-old ran fifth in a field of seven in the William Reid on Friday night which was his first hit-out since finishing unplaced in the Cox Plate in October.

Trainer John Sadler said the William Reid run was “terrific” and providing all the red-tape can be addressed, Singapore is the goal.

“There is some trouble getting the inoculation needed to go to Singapore but that’s another story,” Sadler told Racing Victoria.

Sadler said the grey gelding could possibly run in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile at Randwick on April 13 before pressing on to Singapore.

A trip to Queensland for the Winter Carnival is the back-up option if the Singapore trip doesn’t go ahead.

Linton has won four of 21 starts for $904,000 in prizemoney, last tasting success in the Group 3 RA Lee Stakes at Morphetville in May.

The Galileo gelding hasn’t won in the top grade but was in the minor placings in both the 2011 Australian Cup and the BMW.

Also possibly headed to Singapore is Linton’s stablemate Lady Melksham.

The four-year-old is entered for the KrisFlyer International Sprint but an overseas trip will depend how she fares in her major autumn target in the Group 1 Robert Sangster Stakes at Morphetville on April 27.

The lightly-raced mare kicked off her campaign with a win at Moonee Valley earlier this month and will have another hit-out at Flemington on April 13 before heading to Adelaide.
