Gai Waterhouse has produced another strong Golden Slipper contender with Sweet Idea taking out the Group 2 $200,000 Patinack Farm Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m) at Rosehill today.
Waterhouse declared that Sweet Idea will be one of her main chances in the Group 1 $3.5m Tooheys New Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on April 6 after the Snitzel filly ploughed through the heavy track to record her second win from five starts.
“Outstanding filly,” Waterhouse said.
“She was impossible to beat today and more importantly she will be impossible to beat on Golden Slipper day.”
“Top class, the fillies have got it over the colts at this point in time and she proved it yet again.”
Waterhouse had freshened up Sweet Idea since returning from Queensland where she ran second to Real Surreal in the $2m BMW Magic Millions 2yo Classic (1200m) at the Gold Coast in January.
“She raced in Queensland. The beauty about going up there it gives them a chance to really have a good hit out. She did that, earned money for the owners and today she got the crown.”
Jim Cassidy was content to sit back and let Kuroshio and All The Talk cut at each other in the early and middle stages when they set up a handy lead but quickly came back to the field in the straight.
Sweet Idea ($6.50) and Queensland two year old Whiskey Allround ($8.50) made their runs together at the 250m with the Waterhouse filly proving too strong in the run to the line.
Favourite Charlie Boy ($5.50) was always well back in the field and made up some ground in the straight to fill third spot.
