Silver Shadow Stakes 2015: Fireworks Over The Odds

Trainer Gerald Ryan believes that Fireworks represents good value at her current 2015 Silver Shadow Stakes odds of $7 and he is confident that the talented filly will perform well when she returns to the races in the Group 2 event at Royal Randwick tomorrow.

Fireworks was sent to the spelling paddock following her flat performance in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill Gardens on March 21, but she has now been back in work for a couple of months and finished fourth behind stablemate Deploy in a barrier trial at Rosehill Gardens on August 4.

Ryan told Racing Ahead that Fireworks took plenty of benefit out of her time in the paddock and he believes that she is capable of winning the 2015 Silver Shadow Stakes tomorrow as long as there is a genuine tempo in the early stages of the race.

“She is stronger and probably 40 kilos heavier,” Ryan said.

“She is coping pretty well, but she is a little hard to get a line on because she is not a brilliant track worker.

“In saying that, she is eating her feed and she looks well.

“She has good form and I think on her form in the autumn she is way over the odds at $8.

“She is better if she gets a bit of room and gets to the outside, so that is the way that we will ride her tomorrow.

“Let’s hope that there is a bit of pressure up front because she will be hitting the line really, really hard.”

Fireworks has been included in the nominations for the Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) that will be held at Caulfield on October 10, but Ryan remains unsure whether the filly is able to run out a strong 1600 metres.

Ryan confirmed that Fireworks would have her next race start in the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on September 5 and he would then decide whether to set the Snitzel filly for the 2015 Thousand Guineas.

“You would think that whatever she does tomorrow she will take improvement from it and I am still to work out whether she will run 1600 metres or if she is a backmark sprinter,” Ryan said.

“She will run tomorrow and in the Furious in a fortnight and then we will decide whether to keep her to the shorter races or extend her out to the 1600 metres of the Flight and the Thousand Guineas.”

Fireworks is currently available at 2015 Silver Shadow Stakes odds of $7 with Ladbrokes and she is on the fifth line of betting behind Lake Geneva ($3.20), Kimberley Star ($3.60), Speak Fondly ($4.80) and Kangarilla Joy ($6.50).
