Shinn Thrilled With Streama Ahead Of Doomben Cup

Jockey Blake Shinn has revealed that he could not be happier with the condition of Streama ahead of the 2014 Doomben Cup after riding the triple Group 1 winning mare at trackwork this morning.

Shinn announced last night on Twitter that he was heading to Brisbane to partner his favourite mare in work and took to the social media outlet again this morning to express his delight at the feel he received from the daughter of Stratum.

“I couldn’t be more happier with the way Streama worked at Doomben this morning,” Shinn posted this morning.

Shinn steered Streama to victory in both the Group 1 George Main Stakes (1600m) at Royal Randwick on September 21 last year and the Group 2 Hollindale Stakes (1800m) at the Gold Coast on May 3 and has an excellent opportunity to win another Group 1 on the five-year-old in the Doomben Cup this weekend.

Trainer Guy Walter has been happy with the way that Streama has progressed through her autumn campaign and told AAP yesterday that the classy mare has done every right in the lead-up to what could be the final race start of her stellar racing career.

“She has come through the Hollindale in really good order,” Walter said.

“I went up to Brisbane to watch her work on Saturday morning and was very pleased.

“I think she is ready for the 2000 metres.”

Streama made her racing debut in February of 2011 and apart from her second place finish at Canterbury in her first race start has raced exclusively at black type level throughout her career.

She scored her maiden win at Listed level with a victory in the Listed Keith Mackay Stakes (1200m) at Royal Randwick on April 16 and stamped herself as one of the best fillies in the country during the 2011 Spring Racing Carnival; taking out the Group 2 Furious Stakes (1400m) and Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes (1500m) before scoring a dominant six and a half lengths win in the Group 1 Flight Stakes (1600m).

Streama finished her three-year-old career with a narrow win in the Group 1 Australian Oaks (2400) at Royal Randwick during the 2012 Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival and performed consistently without winning at Group 1 level as a four-year-old, but returned to winning form at the highest level of racing with her win in the George Main Stakes and was narrowly denied by Boban in the Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m).

Walter is chasing his second win in the Doomben Cup after winning the 2004 edition of the race with Defier, while Shinn will be riding in the race for just the second time in his career.
