She Will Reign was brilliant in winning a 900m barrier trial at Rosehill this morning with Moir Stakes jockey Kerrin McEvoy aboard and trainer Gary Portelli said that the Manhattan Rain filly was ready to head to the southern capital next Wednesday.

“She’ll come down next Wednesday night and get there Thursday morning,” Portelli told racing.com.

“We’ll race her Friday night and get her home as fast as we can.

“We might even leave Saturday night or Sunday morning. We find the quicker you get them home, the less chance of anything going wrong and they love their own feed bin.”

She Will Reign proved to be the dominant two year old during the 2017 Sydney Autumn Carnival with a brilliant win in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper (1200m) at Rosehill on March 18.

Golden Slipper winners have a bad history of not reproducing their two year old form in their three year old year and Portelli is hoping that She Will Reign will be able to break the mould.

“She’s just got to step-up now. The two-year-old hoodoo. We’ll see if we can get rid of it,” Portelli said.

Portelli is keen to have She Will Reign back at his Warwick Farm stables safely after the Moir Stakes to prepare her for the $10m The Everest (1200m) at Randwick on October 14 for slot owners Yu Long Investments.

Golden Slipper winning jockey Ben Melham is working on reducing his weight to ride She Will Reign in The Everest but Kerrin McEvoy will ride the filly in the Moir Stakes.

McEvoy is the second jockey that Portelli has engaged for the 1000m scamper around The Valley after original booking Craig Williams was forced onto the sidelines after being suspended for careless riding for twenty-three days for causing interference that saw the Darren Weir trained Limestone clipping heels and dislodging Damian Lane at the 100m in the Group 2 $200,000 Danehill Stakes (1200m) at Flemington last Saturday.

In early betting for the Moir Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au She Will Reign is the second pick at $4 just behind the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Russian Revolution at $3.30 while in The Everest the filly is listed at $8 in a congested top of the market order.

Early market order for the Moir Stakes at Ladbrokes.com.au: $3.30 Russian Revolution, $4 She Will Reign, $8 Malaguerra, $9 Redzel, $11 Ability, $13 Heatherly, Ball Of Muscle, , Faatinah, Hellbent, Sheidel, $15 Houtzen, Terravista, $17 Super Cash, Supido, Viddora, $21 or better the rest.
