Two-year-old filly Schiffer will begin her campaign this weekend on her way to a targeted run in the $500,000 Thousand Guineas at Caulfield Racecourse in October.
Schiffer will compete in the Rosebud Fillies Preview at Warwick Farm this weekend in order to try and win some extra prize money to help her gain entry into some of the bigger spring carnival races.
While Schiffer has won close to $250,000 in prize money, only $42,000 of this currently counts towards her ballot position due to her placings in the $200,000 Wyong Magic Millions and $2 million Gold Coast Magic Millions.
“That’s why she’s come back now, she’s won a quarter of a million dollars in stakes but only $42,000 of it qualifies for a ballot,” trainer Gerald Ryan said.
Ryan believes Schiffer has come back from her spell looking better than ever.
“She’s come back very well, she’s bigger and stronger,” he said.
“She’s a lot more settled, I’ve been teaching her to settle this time in and she’s done it.
“And she does go through the wet, she’s shown it at home.”
The Snitzel filly is being aimed at both the Group 1 Flight Stakes and the Group 1 Thousand Guineas in the spring.
“She will run in this race on Saturday and then the four (Princess Series) fillies races along with the Thousand Guineas and then go to the paddock,” Ryan said.
