Satin Shoes Gets New Jockey In McEwan Stakes

Trainer Clarry Conners has turned to jockey Lisa Cropp to ride his stable star Satin Shoes in this weekend’s McEwan Stakes at Moonee Valley.

Regular rider Michael Rodd was unable to make the 50 kilogram weight in the race and will instead ride Mark Kavanagh’s Shrapnel.

Conners is hopeful the light weight will be the advantage Satin Shoes needs to out-class the boys in the $150,000 event.

“It’s probably a harder race than what I thought it was going to be,” Conners said.

“The distance suits her.

“Lisa Cropp will ride her at 50kg.

“It’s a nice comfortable weight for her.”

Conners is happy with how Satin Shoes has pulled up from her unexpected eighth place finish last start in the McNeil Stakes.

“She’ll be very competitive,” Conners said.

“She worked really nicely at the Valley on Tuesday morning so I couldn’t be happier with her.

“I think it was important for her have a look at the Valley and for Lisa to ride her even though I had to bring her from Geelong to do it.

“Lisa said she was glad she rode her because she felt as though she was going through her gears and that’s what Michael Rodd said when he rode her for the first time too.

“He said she tricked him so it will be beneficial for Lisa to have ridden her.

“She’s just got to let her run along.”

Satin Shoes won her first-up start in the Listed Quezette Stakes on August 13.
