While the connections of Albert The Fat celebrate his Emirates Stakes win, it was a worrying ending for talented eight-year-old Pinnacles, who broke down badly in the final stages of the race.
Pinacles suffered a fractures sesamoid in the race and has been taken away for assessment.
The gelding looked a winning chance 200 metres out from the line but was abruptly pulled up by jockey Steven King, who quickly dismounted shortly after the line.
Pinnacles was at the end of his best preparation and had finished no worse than fifth in his past eight race starts.
The Fuji Kiseki gelding, who was purchased for $100,000 at the 2005 Inglis Easter Yearling Sale, had his best career result when second to stablemate Toorak Toff in the Group 1 Sir Rupert Clarke Stakes in September.
Pinnacles has won 11 of his 60 career starts and earned more than $1 million in prize money.
