Sacred Master’s 2016 Caulfield Cup odds continue to shorten and the Newcastle Cup winner is now into $14 to record a maiden Group 1 victory at Caulfield.
Sacred Master was available at a quote of $31 when the Caulfield Cup field was released earlier in the week, but there has been consistent support for the Chris Waller-trained stayer and he has been a clear market mover in betting markets with Ladbrokes.
Waller has both Sacred Master and Preferment in the 2016 Caulfield Cup field, but the leading Sydney trainer believes that Sacred Master is his best chance in the Group 1 event – although he is concerned by the quality of Scottish, Exospheric, Sir Isaac Newton and Articus.

“I like Sacred Master,” Waller told Racing Ahead.
“The light-weight is a big thing in the Caulfield Cup and he hit the line really strongly last start.
“I just wonder whether Preferment is going as well as he was last year and for that reason I have a slight leaning to Sacred Master.
“I think The Metropolitan form will be fine this year.
“We just have to hope that the overseas horses don’t bring their best form because they look very strong.”
Sacred Master was settled towards the tail of the field in The Metropolitan before he hit the line strongly and Waller is hopeful that jockey Tommy Berry will be able to settle the five-year-old a touch closer to the speed in the early stages of the
“We will stress to Tommy just to get him to switch-off,” Waller said.
“He was a little keen in The Metropolitan, but that might have been due to the lack of tempo in the middle stages.
“It would be nice to able to sit in the middle of the field or a pair closer would be good.”
Waller is chasing his first victory in the Caulfield Cup after previously missing the placings with Metal Bender (2010), Triple Honour (2010), Hawk Island (2011), Royal Descent (2013 and 2015), Hawkspur (2013 and 2014), Kelinni (2013), Moriarty (2013 and 2014), Junoob (2014), Hawkspur (2014), Who Shot Thebarman (2014 and 2015) and Grand Marshal (2015).
Sacred Master is currently available at $14 in the 2016 Caulfield Cup odds market. The Ciaron Maher-trained mare Jameka ($3.70) is still the clear favourite from Real Love ($7.50), Scottish ($7.50), Articus ($9.50), Sir Isaac Newton ($12) and Exospheric ($13).
Update: The money continues to flow for Sacred Master and he is is now into $13 to deliver both Chris Waller and Tommy Berry their first ever wins in the Caulfield Cup.
