Sacred Choice Wins Soggy Doncaster Mile

The 2011 Doncaster Mile has fallen the way of Sacred Choice with the mare revelling in the wet conditions to storm home to victory.

The hot favourite More Joyous never fired a shot in the race finishing out of the placings mid-pack where she was the entire trip.

Sacred Choice was backed massively coming into the race with her odds reducing by around 60 percent on most bookmakers.

Despite this she was still paying big odds putting a bit of excitement into an otherwise dreary day at Randwick.

She didn’t want to get too far back and she was ridden a treat by jockey Tim Clark.

Her trainer Joseph Pride couldn’t speak highly enough of the horse who picked up a lazy $1.2 million for the race victory.

“I was just worried without cover but she settled well,” Pride said.

“When she broke away nothing was going to catch her.

“I’d love to think that I can get the best out of her and this mare has been a phenomenon”

He hinted that he’s got more than he could have ever hoped for out of the mare and she could be off to stud quite soon.

“I think she’s probably done all she can do,” Pride said.

“I’d like to finish her on a good note.”

The pride was shared by Tim Clark who deserves plenty of credit for his race strategy.

“(I’m) absolutely wrapped to be able to win such a prestigious race,” he said.

“This is definitely the best race I’ve won.

“She was the fresh horse on the scene and she showed that”
